Malaria tablets (antimalarial medication) are not available on NHS prescriptions for travel purposes.
Travel health medications, including antimalarial tablets, are generally considered a private service and must be obtained at the patient's own expense. The NHS does not fund malaria prevention medication for individuals travelling abroad.

We are unable to issue letters/certificates stating patients are 'fit to fly'. Assessing whether someone can fly falls outside our area of expertise as General Practitioners (GPs) and the clinical risk associated.
The BMA advises that there is no statutory requirment for GPs to complete Fit to Fly airline forms for patients.
Your hospital team will be better placed than us to inform your airline of some conditions. Pregnant women may be able to obtain the required paperwork from their midwifery team.
We recommend that you seek advice from your airline and airport to make sure you know exactly what you need to travel. Don't leave it to the last minute.
Our Nurses can provide travel health advice and arrange for appropriate immunisations. Please arrange an appointment at least 6-8 weeks before departure. Vaccines need time to take effect and some may require a course over several weeks.
